The missing responsibility
Nobody did this wrong. Nobody owned the whole thing.
Leadership made its decisions. Departments and program directors made theirs. Writers, designers, developers, marketers, and vendors completed the work in front of them. The missing job was deciding what all of it should mean to a person trying to understand the organization.
- 01 Read everything that accumulated SiteApp begins with every public page. A stray sentence may hold an explanation, a piece of evidence, a bit of history, or a relationship the organization still needs.
- 02 Find what it all belongs to Services, products, programs, and locations are not separate organizations. SiteApp works out how they belong together, why people should trust them, and where each person should begin.
- 03 Give the organization one voice, one visual world, and one way to work. The design makes the organization recognizable. The writing makes its value clear. The navigation, forms, artwork, and features help people act on what they understand. SiteApp makes those decisions together, so the idea found at the beginning survives all the way to the button someone presses at the end.
- 04 Put the whole website on trial The organization’s current website stays live while the organization reads every page and follows every path SiteApp built. A few good pages are not enough. The organization must make sense as a whole.
- 05 Keep the next change from pulling it apart If the organization chooses the website SiteApp built, SiteApp publishes that website at the organization’s web address, replacing the organization’s current website. SiteApp remains responsible afterward, so the next new program, new person, or urgent correction has somewhere to belong.
